Oh god this is making its round around tumblr again…

I have such mixed feelings about this; when I first saw it, my first thought was oh fuck yeah, more ladies/people in general need to know about checking themselves for lumps and any irregularities. Good for you DC and Marvel for bringing this to the attention of those who might not now about it!

But then… I kinda thought about it a bit more and these images didn’t settle right with me. Why are these super-ladies doing these checks with their tops on firstly? Did they all gain the super ability to check their skin through their clothes? Ah, maybe they’re only clothed because you can’t really show naked ladies in comics/ads that might be marketed at children. But still, that’s easy enough to get around…

Percentage wise, it’s been stated that ladies aren’t the majority of comic book buyers or readers, that title belongs to the guys. (Yes, I know I know, us girls read comics and enjoy them too and the comic industry shouldn’t forget about us and so on and so forth. I don’t want to get into that in regards to this post.). So, my second initial thought was; these pictures have been done solely for the men. Look; ladies touching their boobies! It’s sexyyyy~! I won’t really deny that these characters are sexy (frankly I adore Catwoman); but trying to make checking for lumps sexy and/or provocative? Really?

My question is, where’s the male equivalent to this? Where are the images of Superman, Batman, Spiderman and Wolverine with their hands down their pants, checking for irregularities/testicular cancer? Yeah, some guys may not want to see their favourite hero touching their super wang, but it could potentially save a life or two.

I don’t know. Maybe I’m blowing this out of proportion…
